What People Really Think of What You Want to Do

One of our biggest fears when it comes to going after the dreams in our heart is the fear of what people will think.

  • What if they think it’s stupid?
  • What if they think it’s impossible?
  • What if they tell me it can’t be done?
  • What if they think I am insane?
  • What if they never talk to me again?
  • What if they talk about me behind my back?

Body Beast Review

I recently finished my first run through of one of Beachbody’s newer programs: Body Beast. It was AWESOME! Beachbody always delivers. I know it’s not for everyone, but it’s definitely for me! I love their workouts because:

  • I can do them at home
  • They don’t require a lot of equipment
  • They do all the thinking for you! You don’t need to develop a workout routine, they have world-class trainers who do it for you!
  • They come with a meal plan! I have learned so much about nutrition through these guides. They are priceless!
  • All you have to do is push play!
  • Their trainers are awesome! They inspire and challenge you!
  • Their programs are cheap and you can use them long after you’ve paid for them!
  • They produce results! Search YouTube for Beachbody results. You’ll see thousands and thousands of testimonies!
  • You become a part of a community that supports you. I have made a lot of friends through using Beachbody’s products and programs! They inspire me and challenge me to stay in the best shape of my life!

My goal isn’t to sell you on Beachbody or Body Beast, my goal is to help you get into the best shape of your life. After all, the best workout is the one you’ll do! If it’s Beachbody, great! If it’s Crossfit, great! If it’s ___, great! As long as you’re working our. I Run, You Donate, Light of Life Benefits

On Sunday, May 5th, 2013, I’ll be running my 5th marathon. This time, I wanted to run for something other than finishing within a certain time. I am going to be running for my charity of choice: Light of Life Rescue Mission.

Pittsburgh Marathon Finish Line 2010 I Run, You Donate, Light of Life Benefits

At Light of Life, this is our first year as a contributing charity. Our goal is to raise $25,000 and to become an official charity of the Pittsburgh Marathon in 2014. My personal goal is to raise at minimum of $1,000 for our team and I would like to ask you for your support.

At the bottom of this post, I’ve embedded two videos that highlight the work we do at Light of Life. Please take a few minutes to watch them and learn about what we do and then I’d ask you to consider sponsoring me while I run to raise money for this great cause.

In 2012, Light of Life served over 107,000 meals to those in need. As you think about what you’re able to give, consider how many meals you could provide to those in need:

You can support me at:

  • $2.34 – This provides 1 meal to someone in need
  • $26.20 – This is donating $1 for every mile I will run
  • $50 = 21 meals
  • $100 = 43 meals
  • $500 = 214 meals
  • $1,000 = 427 meals

Sponsor me by:

  • Donating offline
    • You can send a check made out to Light of Life Rescue Mission, Memo: Doug’s Pittsburgh Marathon. Mail to: 915 Western Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15237 to my attention.
  • Running for our Team
      • You can join our team by running any of the races available at the marathon.
      • If you’re already registered, you can still run for us.
      • If you’re interested in joining, contact me at dougsmith@lightoflife.org or call 412.803.4161.

Thank you so much for your support! Let’s be generous so Light of Life can continue to make an impact in the lives of the men, women, and children they serve!

Practice

Jerry Rice is one of the best football players of all time. In the height of Jerry’s  career, John Madden made this remark about him, “The best player in the NFL loves to practice.

Screen Shot 2012 10 19 at 1.07.41 PM Practice

Here is what I’ve discovered:

Everybody wants to play great in the game on Sunday, but few people want to practice everyday in order play great.

Everybody wants to get to the next level in their career, but few people are willing to work hard enough everyday to get to the next level.

Everybody wants to be in great shape physically, but few people want to work out everyday and eat clean.

What separates the average or good from the great, is the way they practice.  The way you practice will be determined on how you view practice. You have to learn to love to practice.

Look over your goals, discover what daily disciplines are needed to achieve them. Then write those disciplines  down. What you write down is what your daily practice is going to look. Once you establish the habits and disciplines you’ll need to do everyday, practice them. Every day. Day in. Day out.

Then one day,  you will accomplish all of your goals, and you will realize the importance of practice.

Then you will fall in love with practice. When you love practice, you’ll practice hard everyday. Practicing hard everyday is the price of greatness.

Learn to love practice.

How to Develop the Right Habits this Year

“Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.” -Jim Rohn

A while back, I wrote a post on the power of habits! Habits will make or break you. They will lead you to success or failure. Dostoevsky said it, The second half of a man’s life is made up of nothing but the habits he has acquired during the first half.Lucas Remmerswaal said, “First you make your habits, then your habits make you!

While many of you probably set New Year resolutions, few of them will stick long-term unless you make habits of them. I’d like to help you develop the habits that will lead you to success in whatever goals you are pursuing.

Thanks to Tim Ferris, I recently stumbled upon an app called Lift that is intended to help you develop habits. It’s help me a lot in the 2 months that I have been using it.
