That’s right, don’t put God first! With the beginning of a new year, a lot of people are re-prioritizing their lives. Typically, people’s priorities will look like this:
- God
- Family
- Ministry
- Work
- Friends
- Etc.

I want to challenge you this year to not put God first. Instead, put God first in every area of your life. God should be first in your family, first in your ministry, first in your career, first in your social life, first in your finances, and every other area of your life.
Too often we put God in His own category and only think of putting Him first when it comes to going to church, reading the Bible, etc. and we wonder why all of the other areas of our lives are so messed up!
In Matthew 6:33, Jesus said, “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and ALL of these things (everything that you need) will be added to you.” Our only job in that verse is to put God first in every area of our lives, and He will take care of the rest.
Proverbs 3:5-6 says to Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
God said that in everything we do, to seek Him! Are you doing that?
Here is the test:
- If we asked your family if you put God first when it comes to family, what would they say?
- If we looked at your checkbook, would we see that you put God first in your finances?
- If we asked your colleagues at work or friends at school if you put God first, what would they say?
- If you were to be honest with yourself, are you putting God first in EVERY area of your life?
If you’re not putting Him first in an area, make the decision that from now on, it’s God first, no matter what.
Don’t just put God first on your priority list, put Him first in every area of your life.
