In this episode, I teach 3 ways to intentionally express your gratitude. You will learn how to be grateful for everything God has done for you, how to be grateful in the midst of any circumstances you find yourself in, and how to intentionally express your gratitude to others.
I originally shared this message at Light of Life‘s annual Thanksgiving banquet. It’s one of my favorite events each year. All of our staff and clients get the opportunity to intentionally express their gratitude to God, to Light of Life, and to each other. It’s always a great reminder that we all have reasons to be grateful regardless of what circumstances we may find ourselves in.
I hope this lesson helps you be more intentional expressing your gratitude and reflecting on things you have to be grateful for this Thanksgiving. Enjoy!
6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” –Philippians 4:6
When was the last time you have thanked God for everything he has done?
The Immigrant Shop Keeper
Once, there was an immigrant shop keeper whose son came to him one day complaining and said, “Dad, I don’t understand how you run this store, you keep your accounts payable in a cigar box, your accounts receivable is on the spindle, and all your cash is in the register. You’re never going to know what all your profits are. ”The immigrant, shopkeeper, father, said to him, “Son, let me tell you something. When I arrived in this land all I owned was the pants I was wearing. Now your sister is an art teacher, your brother is a doctor, and you’re a CPA. Your mother and I own a house and a car, and this little store. Add that all up and subtract the pants and that is your profit.”
Be Grateful in all Circumstance
“Give thanks in all circumstances ; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” -1 Thessalonians 5:18
**Notice it doesn’t say be thankful for all circumstances. Some circumstances in your life are a result of your bad choices, some are the result of what others have done to you, and some are a result of having an enemy who the Bible says wants to devour you.
Romans 8:28 – And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good,[a] for those who are called according to his purpose.
Being Grateful for Others:
“Silent gratitude isn’t much good to anyone.” –Gladys Bronwyn Stern
How do you know if someone needs encouraged? They’re breathing!
Encouragement is oxygen for the soul.
When’s the last time you told people in your life that you were grateful for them?
Every Thanksgiving, we go around the table and tell each other what we’re grateful for and why we’re grateful for each other.
Write thank you notes to people telling them how they’ve made a difference in your life.
Call and/or text them just to let them know you care.
If you’ll live your life being grateful to God for everything He’s done, giving thanks in all circumstances knowing that God will get you through, and be grateful for the people around you . . . I think you’ll find yourself living a much more joy-filled life than you have in the past.
