Title: Getting After Your Purpose

In order to accomplish all that God put you on this earth to do you need to:

  • Recognize that your window of opportunity on this earth is short, but we have the potential to make the greatest impact than ever before in our generation!

  • I want you to recognize two things:

      1. Life is short (we don’t have a lot of time here) AND
      2. now more than any other time in history, we can make the greatest impact in our generation.

  • Imagine what you could do today if you recognize the brief window of opportunity you have here on earth and decide to make a difference!

How maximize the moment? How do we get in the game and recognize our time is short and we need to make a contribution to God’s kingdom?

        1. Do inspiring things with
        2. Inspiring people
        3. For an inspiring vision!

Do inspiring things:

      1. Eph. 5:14-17 “Awake, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will give you light. So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.” Eph. 5:14-17

Some of you just need to step out and start doing something! Create! Invent! Inspire! Ask God for vision!

  • #1 reason why so  many Christians are asleep on this earth, not doing anything – they believe they  have all the time in the world!
  • Colossians 4:5 – 5 Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity.
      1. Opportunity =  a fixed and definite period, a time, a season. An amount of time or a situation in which something can be done.  It is not an unlimited time. It’s here and then it’s gone

Others of you are wasting time doing the wrong things.

    1. Psalm 39:4-6 “Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered— how fleeting my life is. You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath. We are merely moving shadows, and all our busy rushing ends in nothing. We heap up wealth, not knowing who will spend it.

Make the most of every opportunity to DO the things God has called you to do!

Do inspiring things with inspiring people:

Do you have inspiring friends? Do you have people who are on fire, growing, passionate, serving God and going for it in this life?

Tom Peters – Author of In Search of Excellence – Used to ask people – “Who’s the most interesting person you’ve met in the last 90 days and how do I get in touch with them?”

TD Jakes – “people can be inspired by other people to do more and be more. Greatness inspires greatness. Creativity inspires creativity. When you align yourself with people who inspire you and help draw out the best in you, you will find your best self.”  You will benefit greatly from associating with other people who have a vision for their lives and want to pursue that vision!

Do inspiring things with inspiring people for an inspiring vision:

The purpose of your life is far greater than your own personal fulfillment, peace of mind, happiness, your family, career, getting married, having kids, retirement, or even your wildest dreams and ambitions. God’s purpose for your life was never intended to be all about you!

  • It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we’re living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone. Eph. 1:11-12 MSG

Our purpose is to make Jesus’s last commandment our first priority. This is the only vision worth living for! Matthew 28:19 – Go into all the world and make disciples of all nations.

Look at Ephesians 3:7-10 in the message. Paul speaking:

“This is my life work: helping people understand and respond to this Message. It came as a sheer gift to me, a real surprise, God handling all the details. When it came to presenting the Message to people who had no background in God’s way, I was the least qualified of any of the available Christians. God saw to it that I was equipped, but you can be sure that it had nothing to do with my natural abilities. And so here I am, preaching and writing about things that are way over my head, the inexhaustible riches and generosity of Christ. My task is to bring out in the open and make plain what God, who created all this in the first place, has been doing in secret and behind the scenes all along. Through followers of Jesus like yourselves gathered in churches, this extraordinary plan of God is becoming known and talked about even among the angels! All this is proceeding along lines planned all along by God and then executed in Christ Jesus. When we trust in him, we’re free to say whatever needs to be said, bold to go wherever we need to go.

      1. The Holy Spirit equips you and enables you!. Acts 1:8 –But you will receive POWER when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
      2. The enemy’s tactic is to have you graduate and make life all about you – to keep your resources, your talents, your gifts out of furthering the kingdom. To get you to procrastinate and waste opportunities, to get you to distracted and away from doing inspiring things, he will try to get you to avoid being around inspiring people, and he certainly doesn’t want you to pursue an inspiring vision of reaching this world!

  • Recognize that your window of opportunity on this earth is short, but we have the potential to make the greatest impact than ever before in our generation!
  • Make the most of every opportunity to DO the things God has called you to do!
  • Get around people who are passionate, growing, and on fire!
  • Make Jesus’s last commandment your first priority!
  • And ultimately if you Do inspiring things, with inspiring people, for an inspiring vision. There’s no better juice than that!
    1. Everyone Repeat this prayer:

“Father, show me what’s important and what’s not important. Show me what’s your plan, and what’s not your plan. Show us the best use of our time in these next years. Reveal to me every weight and every sin, that would hinder me, slow me down, hold me up, hold me back, and show me how to make the most of my remaining time here. Help me to make your last commandment, my first priority. Equip me and give me power to be your witness and make disciples on this earth. “
