God's Plans (Part 3)

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And My ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the Heavens are higher than the earth, so My ways are higher than your ways, and so my thoughts are higher than your thoughts.”

Isaiah 55:8, 9

Which Way do I Go? Which Way do I Go?

In Part 2 I discussed that there is God’s Perfect/Specific Will, God’s General Will, and God’s Permissible Will. So we know that God has a specific and perfect will for our lives that if we’ll cooperate with it… we’ll live out the most amazing life we possibly could here on earth! Pretty exciting right? But how do you know what God’s perfect will is? How do you now you’re living it? Do you ever wonder how you know who you’re supposed to marry? What you’re supposed to do with your life?

I am convinced that if we can hear from God and be led by Him, then we’ll have it made. Don’t you agree? If we knew God’s perfect will for our lives… wouldn’t that make it so much easier? Well… Good news! It’s God’s will that you know His will… I want to touch on a few factors that come into play when it comes to discovering the Will of God for your life:

  • It’s God’s Will that You know His will (Colossians 1:9) He wants you to figure it out!
  • God’s Word is His will
    • In order to know the specific will of God… we need to know and live out the general will of God. That means knowing and living the B-I-B-L-E God’s Word is His will to everyone…it’s general…you won’t find things like You should marry ______ in the Bible, but you will find out how to conduct your lives in order to please God.
  • The Number One Way God leads us is through His Word and by His Spirit. (Romans 8:14,16)
  • Proverbs 4:18 says that the Path of the Righteous is like the light of dawn, that shines brighter and brighter until the full day.
    • If you’re cooperating with God’s will for your life… your path should be getting brighter and brighter…better and better… if it’s not… you’re probably not on the path.
  • The Bible says that God is NOT the Author of Confusion
    • I heard someone say once that if you have doubt… it’s not God. I used to think that was ridiculous, but the more I grow spiritually… the more truth I am seeing in that statement. God is not out to confuse you!
  • God will give you Peace about Your Decision
    • Phil 4:7 says that God will give you His peace which surpasses understanding. I am convinced that when God is leading us to do something… even if it isn’t logical, doesn’t make sense, etc. that we’ll have a peace that it is the right thing to do.

These are just some of the ways I’ve learned about learning and knowing what the specific will of God is for your life. I hope it helped you!

  1. I am definitely going through this same exact time period in my life right now! What a coincidence! hahha! I have sooo many scriptures that relate to this series. Psalms 119 in the Message Bible is AWESOME:

    Ps. 119: 1-10, 32-35, 73, 105 (Message)
    You’re blessed when you stay on course, walking steadily on the road revealed by God.
    You’re blessed when you follow his directions,
    doing your best to find him.
    That’s right—you don’t go off on your own;
    you walk straight along the road he set.
    You, God, prescribed the right way to live;
    now you expect us to live it.
    Oh, that my steps might be steady,
    keeping to the course you set;
    I thank you for speaking straight from your heart;
    I learn the pattern of your righteous ways.
    I’m going to do what you tell me to do;
    don’t ever walk off and leave me.
    How can a young person live a clean life?
    By carefully reading the map of your Word.
    I’m single-minded in pursuit of you;
    don’t let me miss the road signs you’ve posted.

    I’ll run the course you lay out for me
    if you’ll just show me how.
    God, teach me lessons for living
    so I can stay the course.
    Give me insight so I can do what you tell me—
    my whole life one long, obedient response.
    Guide me down the road of your commandments;
    I love traveling this freeway!

    With your very own hands you formed me;
    now breathe your wisdom over me so I can understand you.

    By your words I can see where I’m going;
    they throw a beam of light on my dark path.
    I’ve committed myself and I’ll never turn back
    from living by your righteous order.”

    Also John 10:27- “My sheep recognize my voice. I know them and they follow me.”

    Isaiah 48:17- “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go.”

    Isaiah 50:4-5- “Morning by morning He wakens me and opens my understanding to his will. The Sovereign Lord has spoken to me and I have listened.”

    Less than 5% of American Christians know their God-ordained purpose and less than 10% of those who do know have any sort of a written plan to bring it to pass. The greatest tragedy in life is not death, but life without a reason. Seek God and he will lead you in steps. The typical way God works is to impress upon our hearts and minds a need, a cause, an issue or an interest that we develop a desire to do something about, and then He leads us one step at a time. God has a specific purpose for each one of us! What is your God-ordained purpose? What is your greatest passion? When are you at your very best?

  2. Listen to you Joyce Meyer!

    That’s crazy… I just read Psalm 119 this morning as well (only in NLV…. a far superior translation!) It got me fired up about God’s Word and His plans! Then I read your comment and I’m even more fired up!

    I am proud of you for seeking God in the way you are in this season of your life. Keep going… your path will get brighter and brighter and the path you’re supposed to choose will become obvious!

    And remember… just because you’re learning some cool stuff from God… does not mean you’re anywhere close to as spiritually mature as I am hahahaaha…

    Just kidding… I learn so much from you! I’m very grateful for our friendship! Thanks 🙂

  3. Bubba,

    Great post and all so true!
    Knowing that God was not an author of confusion has been the best thing to help me in making decisions in my life! I am glad someone else is letting people know this too!

    Blessings,
    Tara
