You're More Important than You Think

“God chooses who has what gifts, so we must not compete or compare.” – John C. Maxwell

The other night, we were at an engagement party and saw an older couple that we have spent some time with in the past year. They are incredible people are being used by God to make a significant difference in our city. The wife is one of the most encouraging people I have ever met.

Within two minutes of seeing them, she looked at me and said, “Doug, God loves you. You’re more important than you think. ”

When she said that, I got so fired up! I was so encouraged! It helped me remember how much God does love me and that He wants to use me to make an impact in this world. It’s easy to forget that and get discouraged!

I am sharing this story because I don’t believe her words only apply to me. I believe they apply to you and I believe that you need to hear that today.

God loves you and you’re more important than you think.

Romans 8:6-8 says, “In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. 7 If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. 8 If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.

God created you intentionally with a purpose in mind. You matter. You play a role in the story God is writing. You have gifts inside of you that are to be used to make a great impact in this world.

Stop doubting your importance. Start believing that God loves you and wants to use YOU to make a difference in this world.

God loves you and you’re more important than you think.

  1. Yes, I needed this. It can seem at times that a message like this is not very “deep” or it’s all been said before, but there are people today, me included, that are going through such trying times that without the absolute knowledge that we are important to God, we would feel utterly hopeless.

Also, you are blessed to have someone who speaks such encouragement into your life. I had a woman today, who I barely know, do the same for me. What a blessing indeed.

    1. Anne,

That is awesome! One of my favorite quotes is, “We need reminded far more than we need instructed.” We often know the lessons we need to learn, but we constantly need reminded of them. I’m glad you have people in your life to encourage you as well!

      Thanks for commenting!
