Know. Love. Do. [Podcast]

Notes:

Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

My challenge for you today is to know the world, love it anyway, and take responsibility for doing something about it.

* To know that there are people who have evil intentions to inflict harm on people every day
* To know that there are people in prison unjustly
* To know that there is corruption in government, business, non-profits, churches, etc.
* To know that there are people who are bound in addiction and all the destruction that causes
* To know that there are people who go without food and shelter every day
* To know that slavery still exists in our world
* To know that many people will die today due to a lack of clean water and enough food to eat
* To know that a lot of dads aren’t involved in their kids lives and the impact it has on theme

Matthew 6:10 – Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

As Christians, we are called to carry out God’s will on the earth.

* Primary Justice – What ought to be
* Restorative Justice – Restoring what ought to be

As Christians, we’re called to run into the messes that most people run away from! -Ben Rath

The more you become like Christ… the more you become like you ought to be.The more we make this world like the Kingdom of God, the more the world will become like the Kingdom of God!

Know the World – Exposure and Proximity

What are you exposing yourself to?

We all want to change the world, but we don’t want to change the world we live in! The world God has called you to change is all around you everyday!

“Most of life is not lived not globally, but very locally.” -Steven Garber

Know it and Love It

32 When Mary arrived and saw Jesus, she fell at his feet and said, “Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died.” 33 When Jesus saw her weeping and saw the other people wailing with her, a deep anger welled up within him,[f] and he was deeply troubled. 34 “Where have you put him?” he asked them. They told him, “Lord, come and see.” 35 Then Jesus wept. 36 The people who were standing nearby said, “See how much he loved him!” -John 11:32-35

16 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. -John 3:16

Know it, Love it, and Do Something About It

“To have knowledge means to have responsibility to means to have care for. If one knows, then one cares; if one does not care; then one does not know.” -Steve Garber

God loved the world so much… he did something about it!

God is not a passive responder to life and death, and that he does not expect us to be.

Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

16 We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters. 17 If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister[f] in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person? 18 Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions. I John 3:116-18

“In our own different ways we are responsible, for love’s sake, for the way the world is and ought to be.” -Steve Garber

Once we know, we are responsible for what we know. The question is, once you know, what will you do about it?

“Ministry is who you are, where you are.” -Bruce Bickel

“People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” -John Maxwell

Do the people in this school know you care about their messes? Know that you love them?

To choose to know, and still love, is costly, it was for God and it is for us.

  • * What issues can you expose yourself to in the next few months?
  • * What issues are you passionate about?
  • * What do you believe God is asking you to do?
  • * What issues do you tend to want to run from, but you feel that God is calling you to run to?
  • * What are you going to do about what you know?
