Since I started L3 Leadership, I’ve been learning a ton. One of the most important things I’ve learned is the importance of consistently putting yourself and your product out there.
One of my favorite questions to ask people is how they got connected with what we’re doing at L3. I can’t tell you how many people have said things like the following:
- “I saw you post about your podcast all over social media, eventually, curiosity got the best of me, I started listening to it, got hooked, then started coming to the breakfasts.”
- “I saw posts about the breakfasts, but ignored them for a while, but eventually got curious and attended one, I’m so glad I did.”
- “I saw your blog on social media and checked it out . . . it’s made an impact on my life.”
I’ve learned that if you don’t put yourself and your service out there, you rob people of the opportunity to be impacted by it.
Of course, this lesson doesn’t only apply to things we’re doing. It applies to everything. Think about everything you are a part of today and that you own today. I’m willing to bet you heard about or saw that product or service several times before you bought it or joined it.
I am convinced that we are unaware of some of the most impactful products and services that exist today, simply because people are afraid to promote them. Phil Knight once said, “You can have the best product in the world, but if nobody knows about it, what good is that?”

So, how can we avoid never impacting people with our product or service? Do the following:
If You Truly Believe in Your Product or Service, Share It – You will never make an impact with the product or service that nobody knows about! If your product or service can enhance people’s lives, why wouldn’t you share it?
Don’t Let the Fear of What People May Think override the Chance to Impact People through Your Service of Product – Too often we let the fear of what people think hold us back from sharing our product or service with the world. As a result, we limit the impact our product or service can have on people. Instead of thinking about who will be annoyed or critical, start thinking about the people’s lives who will be changed forever as a result of what you’re doing.
The reality is, some people will care and be impacted by what you’re offering and some won’t, so what? My Pastor said something that helped me in this area. He said, “There are 6.1 billion people on the planet who will want nothing to do with what you’re offering, go find the ones who do!”

Don’t Spam People – If you don’t have a problem promoting your product or service, I would caution you on the other side and tell you to make sure that you do more than just promote your product or service. If the only thing you ever talk about or post about is your product or service, you are going to be ignored faster than you think. Find ways to add value to people and to connect with people outside of promoting your product or service.
Check Your Heart when it comes to Self-Promotion – We live in a world where it’s easy to promote ourselves, our products, and our services. I do believe there is a danger in this and we need to constantly be checking out hearts. If you find yourself getting into an unhealthy place with self-promotion, you may need to take a break. If you’re not sure how you’re doing with this, ask your spouse, friends, and mentors, if they’re good, they’ll be honest with you.
Questions to Ask Yourself:
- Do people know about your organization?
- Do people know about your product or service?
- What are all the ways you’re currently promoting your product or service?
- What are some other way you can start promoting?
- What fears are holding you back from sharing your product or service with the world?
- What is the potential impact your product or service can have someone’s life?
- Do you believe it can change people’s lives?
If you truly believe your product or service can enhance people’s lives and you don’t share it with them, then you are robbing the world of the chance to be impacted by you. Don’t rob the world.
Share your product and service. Change someone’s world.
