P90X3 Review

Six years ago, I started doing P90X and got into the best shape of my life. Ever since then, I have been absolutely hooked on Beachbody programs. I have done P90x, P90X2, Insanity, Body Beast, and now P90X3. I absolutely love it! When I saw that P90X3 was coming out, I was so fired up. The one thing I was concerned about was the 30 minute workouts! The other Beachbody programs I did were all 40-65 minute workouts. I was use to going hard for an hour and getting great results. Could I really get into great shape in 30 minutes? In researching the program, I found that Tony Horton had the same question. He did not want to do a 30-minute workout program. He wanted people to workout for 45-60 minutes per workout. Well, Beachbody did the research and science proves that the you can maximize the benefits you receive from working out in 30 minutes. Anything beyond that is extra and is great, but all you really need is 30 minutes. P90X3 was born.

 The Workouts:

There are 16 workouts in P90X3! I enjoyed all of them! It did take me a while to get used to only working out for 30 minutes a day, but overall, I enjoyed it. The thing I love most about getting Beachbody Programs is it adds to my collection of video workouts. Now that I have 4 or 5 programs, I have a ton of workouts that I can choose from on a daily basis.  Moving forward, I will use P90X3 workouts for days when I don’t have a lot of time to workout and need to get a good workout in quickly.

The Results:

Before: I started P90X3 on January 6th, 2014. As usual (although I’m determined to not let this happen this year), I put on almost 10 lbs. between October and December! I remember being in Quebec for Christmas and I stepped on the scale for the first time in months. I weighed 196! My heart sunk into my stomach. I hadn’t been over 190 in a long time! I was determined to get down to 180 by spring! My plan was to do P90X3 and train for a marathon. Here is my before picture:

After:

photo (5)I finished the program the first week of April. I was down to 186 lbs. and felt much better about how I looked. To be fair, I didn’t do the entire 90 days of P90X3, I would run 3 days a week in order to train for the marathon. So my results are from that combination. However, I find that I actually do not lose as much weight while I’m running and training for a marathon as I do when I’m doing mostly Beachbody program workouts, so I think I would have lost even more weight had I just done the program. Obviously, nutrition is a factor as well. I ate good about 75% of the time. Weekends and special occasions are always tough for me. If I could have bumped that percentage up between 80-90% I would have gotten even better results. Either way, I am extremely happy with the results I got from X3. I should mention that my wife did this program with me and saw very similar results! She was very happy with her results.

Nutrition:

Every Beachbody program comes with a Nutrition Guide. These guides are extremely helpful! I did P90X for two years without worrying about nutrition and I didn’t lose any weight or body fat. 70% of your results will come from your nutrition.

Supplements:  The only supplement I used during X3 was Shakeology. I drink Shakeology to make sure all of my basic nutrition needs are being met. I’ve been using Shakeology for 3 years and absolutely love it. I usually use the P90X Results and Recovery Formula, but I did not think I needed it after an X3 workout. I only use 1 scoop after I do 45-65 minute workouts. 1525757_797685989368_425160320_n

Summary:

Overall, P90X3 is a great program. If you’ll do the workouts and stick to the nutrition plan, you will get results. As I mentioned before, going forward I will probably use these workouts for when I am pressed for time. I am glad I got the program and glad I went through the program. Tony Horton delivered once again.

Suggestions for You:

If you’ve never tried a DVD workout program before, this would be a great program to start with. If working out for 45-60 minutes a day seems unrealistic for you, this program is for you. Ultimately, the best workout is the one you’ll actually do. For me, I love Beachbody programs, I love working out at home, and I love the variety their workouts provide. Beachbody has developed programs for basically every fitness goal you can have. If you have a goal and need help picking a program, let me know. I’d love to help you pick the right program for you.
