Proximity

“Go into all the world and preach to the good news to everyone!” ~Jesus in Mark 16:15

Since I have gotten married, I have been watching the news a lot more. I constantly find myself thinking, “Wow. The world is a messed up place and is in desperate need of Godly men and women to stand up and start making a difference.”

I’ve also found that it is easy to see a need, but the question is, What are we going to do about it?

Before I started working for Light of Life, I knew that we were supposed to help the poor, homeless, broken, needy, and abused, but I just didn’t know how. Before I worked in youth ministry, I knew there was a need for youth leaders to invest in the lives of young people and that I would love to help with that, but I had no idea how to do that.

Have you been there? Seeing needs everywhere but now knowing how to meet them?

What I have learned is that we will only meet the needs of the world that we are in proximity with. If we really want to make a difference somewhere, then we need to get up close to the where the need is.

When I started serving in a youth ministry, I learned how to make a difference in the lives of the next generation. When I started working at Light of Life, I learned how to make a difference in the lives of the broken, homeless, needy, addicted, and abused.

So, what needs in the world do you see that you would like to do something about? Get in proximity with them!

Volunteer in a church or non-profit meeting that need. Go on a mission trip. Raise awareness. Meet the men and women actually in need. Jesus said to GO! He did not say to sit around feeling sorry for those in need or just to write a check to those in need. He said to get in proximity with the needs of the world.

Go. The world needs you.
