The God Ask by Steve Shadrach – This is a book for anyone who has to raise money! If you are in ministry and have to raise your own salary, this is a must read. If you are a fundraiser, this will be an excellent resource for you.
The Pursuit of God by A.W.Tozer – A classic. Because of the way it is written, it can be a slower read, but this is always a great book to go back and read to be challenged in your walk with God.
The 7 Faces of Philanthropy by Russ Alan Prince and Karen Maru File – Another fundraising book. This categorizes all people into seven different categories of giving. Each category gives for different reasons and wants different recognition. This book will help anyone in fundraising.
Jesus Is by Judah Smith – This book would be good for anyone who doesn’t have a great grasp on the grace of God. You will know how much God loves you after you read this book.
The Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer – Another classic. This is a slower read, but it will challenge you in your walk with God.
9 Things a Leader Must Do by Henry Cloud – If Henry Cloud writes something, you need to read it.
The Legend of the Monk and The Merchant by Terry Felber – I stumbled across this book by listening to Dave Ramsey’s podcast. Dave has 7 books that he makes every new staff member read. This is one of them. It is a quick read and stresses that whether you are in ministry or business, both can glorify God.
Decisive by Chip and Dan Heath – Being decisive is a challenge for me sometimes. It is an area I want to grow in but I wasn’t sure how. This book provided a road map for how to do that. If you struggle making decisions or do not make great decisions, this book is for you.
The Dark Side of Leadership by Gary L. McIntosh and Samuel D. Sr. Rima – Every leader should read this book once a year. All of our personalities come with strengths, but they also come with a dark side. If we’re not careful, our dark side will end up ruining everything we have worked for. We all need to be aware of our dark sides and the boundaries we need to have in place so we don’t stumble. Read this book!
Developing the Leaders Around You by John C. Maxwell – I’m starting to go back through all of John Maxwell’s books. Given some things that I have in my heart to do this year, this book was required reading. If you want to have a clear-cut process for developing leaders, then read this book!
The 4 Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferris – I read the Kindle version before, but I got a hard copy this time. This book is a manual so it’s not very helpful on an e-reader. Anyway, this is a must read for anyone who wants to be effective in today’s world. This book is a book on hacking life and it’s principles have been proven over and over again. This should be required reading for everyone in order to know what’s possible in today’s world.
Who You Are When No One’s Looking by Bill Hybels – This was an excellent read on character. Every leader should read this book. Nothing is more important than who we are when no one is looking.
