“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things He has planned for us long ago.” -Ephesians 2:10
A few months ago, I was looking to make some changes in my life. I wanted to write my own story. Instead of taking time to hear from God about what He wants me to do, I was actively planning what I thought would be best for my life.
Have you been there?
I was discussing my plans with a close friend and he challenged me. He said, “Doug, don’t forget who has written your story up to this point. You could have never written what God has done in your life! You didn’t plan to be where you are today. You didn’t plan to be at Light of Life. You didn’t plan to be fundraising. You didn’t plan to ___. Let God continue to write the incredible story He wrote for you before you were born.”
Baam! I was expecting him to tell me how awesome my plans were! So much for that! I’m so grateful for what he said though. It caused me to refocus on God and His plans for my life. It gave me peace to know that I can trust the God who has brought me to where I am today to continue to write a story that is better than anything I could plan in a thousand lifetimes.
That week, I re-surrendered my dreams and plans for my life to God in exchange for His plans for my life. Have you done that lately?
Rick Warren recently said, “Satan’s oldest lie is that God cannot be trusted to know what’s best and what will bring you the most happiness.” When we start writing our own story, it’s a clear indicator that we’re no longer trusting that God with our lives.
My encouragement to you today is to trust God to write your story. I promise that He’s a better story writer than you are.
