7 Amazing Things About being a Christian that I take for Granted

I have lived half of my life for God and half of my life not living for God and there is no comparison!

However, after 12 years of walking with God consistently, I have found that there are things that are available to us as Christians that if I am not careful, I can take for granted.

Sadly, people who are not walking with God and even some who do, have absolutely no idea what’s available to them in Christ.

Here are 7 amazing things that are available to every child of God on the planet that we should never take for granted:

1.) Salvation – Christ died for me – Romans 5:8 say, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” While I had absolutely nothing to offer God, He sent His son to die for me so that I could have all my sin erased and have a relationship with God.

The best part about this is that God accepts us as we are. You don’t have to be good enough to earn a relationship with God. In fact, you can’t be good enough to earn a relationship with Him. Too many people think they have to get their lives right, then they can have a relationship with God. The opposite is true, you come to God as you are and then you learn that He loves you enough to not let you stay where you are. Then He gives you the grace, power, and courage to get your life together.

2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”

When I got saved by making Jesus the Lord of my life, my life changed forever. I literally started living a brand new life. It has been the most incredible journey of my life. My prayer is that I’ll never take the fact that Christ died for me for granted. The great part is, He didn’t just die for me, He died for you too! 2.) God gave us the Bible – 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”

God not only died for us, He gave us a book that teaches us how to live. It doesn’t get any better than that! I can open the Bible anytime I want to and as a Christian, it will come alive to me and transform the way I think and live.

3.) We can be led by God – Romans 8:14 says, “As many that are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” In other words, if you are a child of God, you can hear from God. I determined a long time ago that if I could hear from God, I will have it made! It’s been 12 years walking with God and I can tell you for a fact, because I can be led by God, I’ve had it made!

4.) We have the Holy Spirit – In John 16:5-15, Jesus said it’s better that He leaves so that God can give us the Holy Spirit. He then goes on to lists some of the things the Holy Spirit does in our lives. Here is a great list I found online of 50 things the Holy Spirit does.

5.) God helps me Grow to my Maximum Potential – In Hebrews 12:5-12, the Bible tells us that God loves us so much that He will discipline us in order to shape and form our character so we can become the men and women He created to be. Nobody knows how much potential you have more than God does. Nobody knows what issues you need to work on right now more than God does! Nobody knows who you are going to have to become to do what you’ll be doing in 20 years more than God does. I’m so glad I don’t have to come up with my own plan for growing my potential. God gives me the plan and I simply have to work it.

6.) God gave us a Community to Do Life With – God gave us an entire community of believers in the local church and the body of Christ to do life with! In Acts 2:42-47, the Bible gives us a picture of what the body of Christ and the local church should look like when it’s running on all cylinders.

As Reid Carpenter says, “In life, it doesn’t get any better than having magnificent friends, pursuing a magnificent vision, for a magnificent God! There is No better juice than that!”

7.) God gives us a Purpose bigger than Ourselves – I’m convinced that there is not a more exciting life you can live than the life God has planned for you! God created you for a purpose. He gave you gifts and talents that He wants you to grow and develop so He can use you to make a difference in this world. Knowing that God has a plan and a purpose for my life causes me to get out of bed everyday excited that I get to be a part of what He is doing in the world.

In summary, God has given us everything we need to live our best lives, do what we are called to do, and to have a great relationship with Him. My prayer is that we will never take for granted all the wonderful things He’s provided for us.
