Ten years ago, I was 18 years old and attending CCAC. I had just made some tough decisions in my life. I had decided to quit living the life I had been living (partying, drinking, etc.) and start living completely for God. It was a very difficult season for me for a lot of reasons.
At CCAC I had a professor that I really respected, Gary Grassinger (pictured above). One day we were talking after class and I was telling him about the difficulties of walking through the decisions I just made.
He smiled, looked at me, and said, “Bubba, if you could fast forward your life ten years from now and see where you’ll be based on the decisions you are making right now compared to the people making the decisions you had been making, this wouldn’t be such a difficult season for you.”
When he said that, something clicked in my heart. I knew I was making the right decisions, and as hard as it was, I knew that if I stuck with them, everything was going to turn out alright. I got fired up. I got a vision of what life could be in ten years if I’d just continue to do the right thing.
Well, it’s been ten years and just like my professor told me, looking back, that wasn’t such a tough season after all. Yea, it was hard for a few days, weeks, and maybe even months, but after that, it’s been an incredible journey!
In the last ten years, I married the love of my life, traveled around the world, ran 6 marathons, and worked for some really cool places making a huge difference. God’s been very good to me. My life now is completely different than my life ten years ago.
I am so glad that I was willing to embrace a short season of difficulties in exchange for the best ten years of my life. Not one ounce of me regrets walking away from the life I was living.
Why am I sharing this with you? Because I want to give you a vision for your life ten years from now just as my professor did for me. I don’t care what your life has been like up to this point, you can make choices today to create an entirely different life ten years from now.
This is your life. Your life today has been determined by the decisions you made yesterday. Your life ten years from now will be determined by the decisions you are making today. Choose to live an awesome life. You only get one shot at this.
I’ll end with one of my favorite quotes, “Although you cannot go back and have a brand new start my friend, anyone can start from now, and have a brand new end.”
Start now. You won’t regret it.
What decisions can you start making today to live the life you dream of living tomorrow?
