“Think of what our world would be like if Billy Graham had said, “No thanks, God. The vision sounds too costly. I’d like an easier assignment.”
A few weeks ago in church, my Pastor shared a story about a man who was at one time a pastor of a large church. He had made some poor decisions and ended up leaving the church, became a heroin addict, and lost his family and everything else that mattered to him. He ended up being a driver for prostitutes.
One night, he picked up a woman from her “job” and as she got into the car, a Joel Osteen book fell out of her purse. Given the man’s background, he was intrigued that she was reading a book by Joel. He asked her about the book.
She said, “This book is changing my life. I am learning who God called me to be. I am learning that I have value and worth. I have a six month plan to get out of prostituting. I’m going to go to school and become a nurse and spend the rest of my life helping people.”
Upon hearing this, the man turned his life around and spent the rest of his life preaching the Gospel to people.
When I heard that story, my eyes starting watering. All I could think about was, “What if Joel Osteen didn’t obey the call of God on his life and write that book?” I started thinking of all the great men and women who have influenced my life with their presence, their influence, their time, their finances, their books, their podcasts, and their resources. What if they didn’t do what God called them to do? Where would I be? Not only would I be missing out on what they had to offer, but so would the entire world.
I know Joel gets a lot of flack for what he’s doing, but I believe he’s doing exactly what God called him to do and he is making a huge impact in the lives of millions of people who may not have been impacted by anyone else.
Which brings me to you. What has God put on your heart to do? He has called you to do something that will make an impact on this planet. The question is, will you do what He tells you to do?
You never know how something you say, write, or do will impact someones life. You matter more than you think you do. What you do matters more than you think it does.
People’s lives are on the other side of your obedience. Dream big. Be bold. Go after what God puts in your heart. Don’t hold back.
Don’t let the world miss out on the reason God created you.
