It's Work

“Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” -Thomas Edison

A leader I met with recently was talking to me about writing. He said, “Almost everyone wants to write, but so few actually do. Do you want to know why? Because it’s work. There are times you will not feel like writing, but you’ll need to write anyway. You have to see it as job.”

I’ve been thinking a lot about what he said, and I not only believe it to be true in the area of writing, but in every worthwhile endeavor in life. Regardless of what you are dreaming of doing or having, it’s going to take work to get it. For example:

If you want a great marriage, it’s going to take work.

If you want to write a book, it’s going to take work.

If you want to travel and have cool experiences, it’s going to take work.

If you want to be a communicator, it’s going to take work.

If you want to have a consistent blog, it’s going to take work.

If you want your own podcast, it’s going to take work.

If you want to be a great thinker, it’s going to take work.

If you want to be a leader, it’s going to take work.

If you want to be financially independent, it’s going to take work.

If you want to build a great life, it’s going to take work.

If you want great friendships, it’s going to take work.

If you want to make a difference, it’s going to take work.

Get rid of this notion that pursuing your dream is this magical journey. While it’s true that if you are pursuing your dream, it should energize you and it won’t always feel like work, it’s still going to take work!

Are you willing to put in the work necessary to make your dreams come true?

If so, what are you waiting for? Get to work!
