The Way the World Ought to be

I recently read a tweet from a student at a local college about a girl who had died at a party because she was left behind a bar. His tweet said, “Guys, we’re better than this.” I would hope so.

It does not take much to realize that the world we live in is not the way it ought to be. There is so much pain, injustice, sorrow, violence, etc. We all know that the world should be better than this, but we never take responsibility for making it better.

In Matthew 6:10, Jesus prayed, “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

Jesus prayed that God’s perfect will would be done on earth just as it is in Heaven. Well, how much injustice is in Heaven? How much sickness and disease? How much violence? The answer: none.

So . . . is that possible to have that happen on our planet? Yes and no. Until Jesus comes back, we will still be living in a broken world that includes pain, sorrow, etc.

However, we can take responsibility for carrying out Jesus’ prayer. God will always carries out His will through His people. As Christians, we need to take responsibility for making the world more like it ought to be. The more we make this world like the Kingdom of God, the more the world will become like it ought to be.

Once you see yourself responsible for making the world more like it ought to be, pray this:

  • God, what do you want my part to be in making the world more like it ought to be?

Once you pray that, God will start to show you what your part is. Once you know, it’s time to roll up your sleeves and go to work. With God’s help, we can all do our part to make the world as it ought to be.

  1. What a great reminder of the price that has to be paid for freedom. I have a T-shirt that I received from The American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial that has a United States flag and an eagle on it with the words “Freedom is not free.” I thank God for the brave and courageous men and women that have fought for my freedom. I will show this video to my two teenage sons.
